About the
Czech-Irish Business & Cultural Association
WHO WE ARE
The Czech-Irish Business & Cultural Association (CIBCA) has brought Irish people in Prague and across the Czech Republic together since 1995. Every month we run events that mix business, culture and friendship – from networking evenings and pub quizzes to our Social Book Club, family BBQs and the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Gala Dinner. Whether you've just arrived or have lived here for years, you'll find friendly faces, useful contacts and a bit of home. Czech friends of Ireland and fellow expats are always welcome too – our events are run in English.
Your CIBCA Committee
Our voluntary committee is responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of our organization. They work together to make important decisions, plan events, and ensure that everything runs smoothly. Their dedication and hard work are essential to the success of our organization.

Our Story
CIBCA’s story began in 1991, when Prague’s Irish business community started meeting informally to exchange ideas and experiences. In December 1995, the Czech-Irish Business Association was officially established at the restaurant U Ševce Matouše, beside Prague Castle. As the community grew, culture became an important part of its identity, giving rise to today's Czech-Irish Business & Cultural Association (CIBCA).
Bringing People Together
At the heart of CIBCA is one simple idea: building a strong, welcoming community.
Through business networking, cultural celebrations and social events, we bring people together to share experiences, create opportunities and build lasting friendships. Our mission is to strengthen Czech-Irish connections and keep our community thriving for generations to come.
A Proud History of Recognition and Support
CIBCA has been recognised by the Irish Government as a leading representative of the Irish community in the Czech Republic. Over the years, we have had the honour of participating in events alongside distinguished guests, including President Mary McAleese, Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, Tánaiste Mary Harney, and Ministers Micheál Martin, Dermot Ahern, Mary Coughlan, Michael Ahern and Noel Ahern.
We have also enjoyed the continued support of the Embassy of Ireland in Prague and successive Irish Ambassadors:
Marie Cross (1995–1999), Michael Collins (1999–2001), Joe Hayes (2001–2005), Donal Hamill (2005–2009), Richard Ryan (2009–2011), Alison Kelly (2012–2015), Charles Sheehan (2015–2019), Cliona Manahan (2019–2023) and Alan Gibbons (from October 2023).
As a not-for-profit organisation, giving back has always been an important part of who we are.
Over the years, CIBCA has donated hundreds of thousands of Czech crowns to charitable causes connecting Ireland and the Czech Republic, including Barretstown Gang Camp, Krtek Children's Cancer Unit at Brno Hospital and Ocean Youth Trust Ireland, whose Czech team won the 2005 sailing race from Northern Ireland to France.
Be Part of Our Story!
From a small group of Irish businesspeople in 1991 to a vibrant Czech-Irish community today, CIBCA continues to bring people together through friendship, culture and shared experiences. Whether you're Irish, Czech or simply interested in connecting with our community, we'd love to welcome you.
