About The Event
The many names of Newgrange echoing down the millenia, are a vivid reminder of its powerful association with the gods
and godesses of Ireland’s pagan past. Long before the coming of the Celts, over 5,000 years ago Neolithic farmers
designed and constructed this extraordinary monument in honour of a religion whose beliefs we can only guess at today.
But we do know that the early Irish literature identifies Newgrange as the abode of Oengus, son of Dagda, the good god,
and chief deity of the pre-Celtic pantheon. Which, in the light of recent discoveries may well be the key that unlocks the
central mystery of Newgrange and answers finally the questions that have puzzled scholars for centuries..
Because Dagda is the God of the Sun.
And every year for a miraculous few minutes just after dawn on the Winter Solstice the sun penetrates Newgrange in a
manner which has compelled observers to conclude that this is nothing more than the world’s first working observatory!
On the eve of this year’s solstice – 20th December at 18.00, CIBCA presents - Mystique, Myth and Magic- the
magical, mystical story of Newgrange and its place in the history of the island we now call Ireland.
The venue will be a private downstairs room in the Irish Bar - The Three Fiddles, Nerudova 12 (near the bottom of the
street).
If you would like to attend the Solstice commemoration, please let me know soon as seating is limited If you would also
like to join CIBCA (membership is only 700 Kc p.a. for individuals) please also let me know and I will arrange it. I will also
send you a summary of the interesting cultural programme proposed for the coming year.
