Maynooth University Chamber Choir, under the baton of Dr. Michael T. Dawson participated in - and stormed through - the 52nd Festival of Songs in Olomouc (the oldest running choral festival in Central Europe) this summer, winning 6 awards including the “Absolute Winner”. Awards captured are listed below:
🏆 Absolute Winner - 52nd Festival of Songs
🏆 1st Place - Youth Category, score 29.3 / 30
🏆 1st Place - Sacred Music, score 29 / 30
🏅 Special Prize for the best performance of a piece by a Czech Composer
🏅 Special Prize for inspiring competition performance
🏅 Special Prize for Interpretation of Contemporary Choral Music
Following their success in Olomouc, the choir returned to Prague briefly on their way home, and gave an impromtu concert at Church of Our Lady of Victories (Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné), home of the Child of Prague. We captured some of the music here for you to get a flavour of the atmosphere, which was captivating - and poignant as many of the members graduate this summer, and will leave the choir. Apologies in advance for the lack of technical sophistication in these recordings, despite which the musicianship and emotion shine through.
We heartily congratulate the choir and their director, Michael and wish them every success with future endeavours.
You can follow the choir on Facebook.
