The cobblestone streets of Prague’s Old Town Square came alive this December with a touch of Irish magic. Dancers from three renowned Irish dance academies—Coiscéim, TJ Academy of Irish Dance, and InSpiral Dance Company—joined forces to dazzle the crowds at the annual Christmas markets.
On December 1st and December 14th, they brought with them the spirited rhythms and intricate footwork that define Irish dance. Their performances offered a unique blend of tradition and modernity, captivating both locals and tourists who gathered in the festive heart of Prague.
As the Old Town Square shimmered with holiday lights and the scent of mulled wine filled the air, the dancers took to the stage against the backdrop of Prague’s iconic Christmas tree. Their routines were set to a mix of traditional Irish tunes and festive melodies, drawing enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Visitors of all ages were mesmerized by the dancers’ precise movements—from the rapid-fire beats of hard shoes to the graceful flow of soft shoe reels. Many spectators paused their Christmas shopping to watch, with some even attempting a jig or two themselves!
This wasn’t the first time Irish dancers have brought their art to Prague’s most famous square. Their St. Patrick’s Day performance earlier this year was met with such enthusiasm that it paved the way for their return during the festive season.
The collaboration between Coiscéim, TJ Academy of Irish Dance, and InSpiral Dance Company highlights the strength of Prague’s Irish dance community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who came to watch, support, and celebrate this magical cultural exchange.
Here’s to many more unforgettable performances in the future! 🍀
